Mairead Donaher, Nursing in Ireland, Summer 2026
To anyone who is considering doing the Trinity College Nursing and Midwifery program, or anyone considering going abroad at all, I have one piece of advice. Do it! Through this program I was able to truly immerse myself in the Irish education and healthcare system, and I left with memories I will genuinely cherish for the rest of my life. If you get the opportunity to do this exact program, please take it! The faculty at Trinity made us feel so welcome, and the healthcare practices I learned there I will remember for the rest of my life. I constantly think back to the things I learned, especially their holistic approach to medicine, and what I use in my everyday life. You can study and research all you want, but going abroad, being in the city, and exploring for yourself is a feeling and experience indescribable. We can learn so much from other countries and cultures, and we truly flourish in life when we become a melting-pot of all our experiences. Additionally, if you are planning to go abroad, don’t write or people or experiences. Through this program I became best friends with people I didn’t even know went to Pitt, as well as friends in Hong Kong! Say yes to everything and everyone, because you might just have fun and make memories. I feel bonded with my fellow trinity classmates, and we will always think back fondly of the time we shared together. Whether you are abroad just for May like me, or the whole summer/semester, cherish every moment and make the most of every day! There are endless things you can learn while abroad, both about education and about culture. The greatest thing I did when I was abroad was making the most of every hour and every minute. I spent hours exploring the city, and every night out with other students enjoying all of the things the city had to offer.
