Florence: A home away from home

Alyssa Tuccinard, CEA CAPA Florence, Fall 2025

Florence is such a historically significant city. Being the birthplace of the Renaissance, there is a never-ending rich supply of culture, art, and history. In my opinion, Florence is the perfect size of a city. It’s accessible: everything is within walking distance, taxis are a quick call away, and you can get lost and still find the place you needed to go. Something unique that I love about Florence, is that every neighborhood is beautiful and has things to do and see. You could spend a week in Florence and still not see everything. The city has so many hidden gems: small restaurants, cafes, or small family-owned businesses/shops. Florence is a one-stop destination, where you can see it all in one place. Wandering through the streets, seeing the same locals, or stopping in your favorite cafe is one of the many ways Florence quickly feels like home. I never got bored or tired of the city. In fact, if I were to travel to another city, I would find myself missing Florence and waiting to return. You could walk down the same street every day and yet somehow one day see a shop or restaurant you never saw before. The city has endless beauty; the architecture is breathtaking and a walk to the Arno is a short distance away from almost any point in the city.

As for the program, I could not have wished for a better program to be a part of. Aside from the magnificent city itself, the entire staff at CEA CAPA completely transformed my experience for the better. The people I met and the connections I made have truly impacted my life. This program could not have put together a better staff; amazing people who put so much effort into creating a good experience for the students. Aside from the staff, the extracurriculars provided by the program to the students were beyond helpful. In fact, not enough students took advantage of the opportunities provided by the program. It was so much easier to navigate the city and find a good sense of ground while being in an unfamiliar place with the activities the program offered.
