Isabella Anzideo, IES Barcelona Spring 2025

Studying abroad has definitely changed me for the better and has influenced me on all different levels. While studying abroad I gained a new perspective on things not only about myself but about the world. Before going abroad, I knew what my academic, career and personal goals were but living and learning in a new cultural environment provided me with clarity and direction to those goals which I didn’t imagine happening. In terms of academically, studying abroad challenged me to think differently. Learning in a different country allows you to experience different ways of teaching. From this experience it helped me develop a greater sense of confidence in my ability to adapt, communication and problem solve in unfamiliar situation, all of which will be valuable in my career or any career. Professionally, studying abroad helped me gain real life skills that are beneficial in any workplace. While abroad I had to navigate language barriers, cultural norms, different communication style, and much more. From these experiences I am now better equipped with skills that will help me in the workplace. I am more confident in unfamiliar situations and more willing to take initiative and ask questions. I have seen how important cross cultural work is and want to help build bridges across cultures in a workplace. Personally this experiences has helped me realize how much I value connection, curiosity and meaningful engagement, While living in Barcelona I was constantly being pushed outside of my comfort zone. These moments of discomfort led to growth and each moment changed how I approach situations and who I am today. Studying abroad will forever impact my life and the decision I make like where I choose for graduate programs to what values I bring into my career and personal relationships.
