Falling in Love with Barcelona

Isabella Anzideo, IES Barcelona Spring 2025

Barcelona was the best city I could have imagined to study abroad in. It was the perfect city for me. The city of Barcelona is vibrant, diverse, and filled with energy. The city has so much history yet still modern with today’s society. When I first arrived in Barcelona, I thought it was so big but as I started to learn my way around the city felt so much smaller, it felt like home. Walking through the Gothic Quarter was like walking through history, with all little shops and cafes around you. And just a short metro ride away was the beach, perfect for relaxing days. The city balances new and old and each day I would discover something new. The city is alive and the people make the city. The people of Barcelona love their city so much and you can feel the pride when walking the streets. Life in Barcelona was simple, while the city always felt alive it was so still and present. Being in Barcelona taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things such as sitting down to drink my morning coffee in a cafe. The city also pushed me to try new things and grow. Navigating a different language, using public transportation, learning a new culture all encouraged me to try and experience new things. The city has everything I wanted and more than I could even imagine. It is in such a central location and made traveling to other countries so accessible which was a priority of mine when choosing where to study abroad. The Spanish and Catalan culture has so much pride and I felt it everywhere I went within Spain and Barcelona. There was always something new to try or a place to see in Barcelona. I fell in love with the city and its culture, the city of Barcelona really changed my experience and I wouldn’t have wanted to study abroad anywhere else.
