Maggie Altschaffl, Business, Technology, and Engineering: The German Way Summer 2024
I never planned on studying abroad while at the University of Pittsburgh. Until The Business, Technology, and Engineering the German Way Program, I had never left the country and was nervous about going that far away from home. However, I am extremely grateful I did this program because it has changed some of the ways I thought about my life before.
Even though I was nervous about going so far away from home, I always wanted to travel the world. After going abroad, I have even more of a desire to see the world and travel as much as possible. I enjoyed learning about Germany’s culture and what makes the country so unique. I was amazed at all of the nature and outdoor activities there was to do. I love to do outdoor activities, and Germany was the perfect place for this, and I now want to see more places around the world that have similar attributes. I would also like to learn about different countries cultures and be able to see how their citizens live day to day life, as compared to my life in the United States. Studying abroad has also changed some of my career goals.
After going to Germany, I would consider pursuing my career in a foreign country. Learning about the different businesses and their practices was very knowledgeable and made me consider the possibility of working at one of them. Another way studying abroad has changed my career goals is that I used to think I wanted a job where not a lot of travel was involved, however, after exploring a new place for a couple of weeks, I would want a career where travel is involved. I really enjoyed meeting new people and working with them throughout this program, which is something I would like to have carry over into a career. I now would like a career where I am able to travel to a new place and meet new people and be able to work on a project with them. I have learned that working with people from a different culture and background, can be so beneficial since each side has different point of views that can be shared. I am grateful I was able to participate in this study abroad program and be able to experience a different country and it have a lasting effect on my future. I look forward to being able to travel more and continue to explore the world.
