Personal and Professional Development on the German Way Program

Jordan DeWeese, Business, Technology, and Engineering: The German Way Summer 2024

Studying abroad has significantly influenced many of my goals as I enter my final year of undergraduate studies. The “Business, Technology, and Engineering the German Way” program has provided new perspectives on my existing goals and inspired new ones. I am excited to apply the knowledge I gained in this program to my academic, career, and personal development.

Academically, I now aim to better understand the business side of engineering and its influences on my chosen field. The classes in Germany demonstrated that many aspects of business are integral to the engineering field, and to achieve success, it is essential to understand them. Consequently, I strive to complete my undergraduate studies with a comprehensive perspective on how business is intertwined with environmental engineering and what I need to know to be successful in my future career. I believe the classes in this program gave me a good background in business from a German perspective, and I desire to further my knowledge in the context of the United States as I complete my studies this year.

Additionally, I learned about the ever-growing technological advancements in the German manufacturing sector, which has inspired me to explore emerging technologies in the environmental engineering field in the United States. As I enter my career, I hope to continually stay updated on new and developing technologies in the field and understand their potential impacts. Being knowledgeable about future technologies and preparing for their effects will enable me to thrive in my career and be well-prepared for the changes they may bring to the field. I have also developed an interest in the optimization of manufacturing processes during this program and wish to apply these learnings to projects I work on in the future.

The opportunity to immerse myself in a culture outside of the United States was also an experience for which I am truly grateful. In the future, a new goal of mine is to educate myself and travel to new destinations. I gained new perspectives on history and culture outside of what I previously knew, which changed how I view the world.

In conclusion, studying abroad has been an experience that has influenced my goals and aspirations in many ways. It has not only enhanced my academic pursuits but has also widened my horizons personally. As I begin the final year of my undergraduate studies, I am excited to apply the insights and lessons learned from my time abroad to my future endeavors.
