Amya Castellanos, Healthcare in British Context Summer 2023

Going abroad requires lots of money as you will travel and see many incredible things. To experience a lot abroad, lots of money needs to be saved. Since this was my second time abroad, I was more aware of how much money I would spend and how much to save for the summer semester in London. I was able to save money by limiting the number of times I ate food out in restaurants. For instance, while abroad, I would only limit myself to eating out on the weekends. So, I tried to cook food and meal prep Monday through Friday to save money and budget. Luckily, my plan did succeed, as groceries are way cheaper than eating in restaurants. Before going abroad, I did limit the activities I did months before to ensure I was saving enough for my time abroad.

In London, my daily morning routine consisted of making a quick breakfast to eat at home, lunch to take to school, and buying coffee or lattes every other day before commuting to school. Shopping is retail therapy at times for me, so once a week after school, I would go to my favorite stores to shop or window shop to do some stuff I enjoy doing. Besides shopping, typically after school, I like to walk by Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, or anywhere charming to relax and clear my mind after school. After my afternoon adventures, I would commute home to prepare dinner at my apartment and mingle with my roommates. I did not have school every Tuesday, so I always tried to do a day trip somewhere. For instance, I once traveled to the Cliffs of Dover; other times, I traveled to Windsor, Bath, and Canterbury with tour guides. Since there was no school on Fridays, too, I tried to make at least two-weekend trips. One weekend I went to Edinburgh, Scotland, and the other time I went to Brussels, Belgium. So, I spent some money on traveling, like paying for a hotel, flight, and other events acquired during my stay in other countries. I made sure that I prioritized these trips, as I value traveling the world and spending money on experiences. On other weekends I tried to cook as much as possible to reduce out-of-pocket costs but save money for more travels and adventures!
